The Story Behind Islanders

A Shared Vision. A Place to Belong.

Islanders Montessori was founded on a shared belief between passionate educators Sukita Amarasinghe and Anushka Dias that early childhood should be a time of wonder, discovery, confidence, and joy. Drawing from years of experience across diverse educational environments, a deep mastery of Montessori principles, and a genuine love for working with children, they created a space where every child is known, respected, and empowered to learn, grow, and thrive at their own pace.

Islanders Montessori is more than a place of learning; it is a warm and welcoming community where children are encouraged to explore, discover and grow with confidence. Built on a foundation of care, respect and high standards, our school provides a nurturing environment where every child is valued as an individual.

Our children come from different nationalities, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, creating a vibrant and diverse community. At Islanders, we celebrate these differences and encourage children to learn about one another, build meaningful friendships and develop a sense of respect, belonging and togetherness.

A Place Where Children Feel Safe to Be Themselves

At Islanders, we have worked intentionally to create a kind, loving and safe environment where children can explore, make mistakes, ask questions, build relationships and develop confidence.

We believe children learn best when they feel secure and respected. That’s why we place equal importance on their emotional wellbeing, independence, social development and academic growth.

Every detail of our environment — from the prepared classroom to the relationships children build with their educators — is designed with this in mind.

The Journey to Islanders

01

The Beginning

Years of working with children sparked a deeper understanding of what meaningful early childhood education could be.

02

Learning & Experience

Both founders continued to grow through Montessori training, teaching experience, international exposure and specialised education.

03

A Shared Vision

Their individual journeys came together around a common belief: children deserve an environment that respects who they are and how they learn.

04

Islanders

That shared vision became Islanders Montessori — a place built around children, families, educators and a strong sense of community.

05

Growing Together

Today, the founders remain actively involved in the school’s daily life, continually nurturing the environment and maintaining the standards they set from the very beginning
